About Myself

From Farrier to Draughtsman

I have been working as a CAD Designer making bespoke greenhouses and conservatories for over 5 years. During my time at this position I have developed a wide range of skills including; design automation, developing DriveWorks programs to automate technical greenhouse designs, 3D rendering of structures for client reviews, design documentation skills including producing bill of materials, material acquisition sheets and rectification sheets.  I have a large amount of on-site experience helping to install various greenhouses and conservatories. I also have a keen interest in 3D printing and prototyping as a hobby and I have recently started assisting the Research and Development department with their 3D printing needs as well.

In terms of qualifications, I have obtained a Level 3 NVQ in Product Design and a Level 3 BTEC extended diploma in Engineering. These have given me a wide range of both practical and theoretical skills in design and manufacturing from manual machining to basic electronics. I also have a NPTC Level 2 certificate in Forgework and a BTEC Level 2 extended certificate in Horse Care.

Previously to my design work I trained as a farrier, shoeing horses and working in a blacksmithing environment for 3 years. During this time I learned general metalworking skills, equine anatomy and handling and a lot of deadline management. I’m aware this is a slightly unusual profession which some might say is a bit old fashioned but the skills I learnt were invaluable. I can now make horseshoes, tools and anything in between. This also taught me about workshop and conflict management as well as dealing with customer expectations.
